Body Material

Use spruce wood top and Meranti bottom and sides.

Gysen uses imported Engelman spruce, which grows in the mountains of western North America. It is light, soft, straight-grained, light yellow in color, and not easy to darken. It is characterized by a bright, sharp and mature tone, and the mid-range is richer than the more common Sitka spruce.

Spruce has a longer opening time, and the guitar's tone can be well expressed as the player uses it for a longer time. Spruce is generally used for the top of mid-to-high-end guitars. The sound it produces is relatively crisp and suitable for chord playing and singing by oneself.

Meranti is the Indonesian name for wood of the genus Shorea. Another common name for Meranti is Lauan. This type of wood is sometimes also called Philippine Mahogany. Meranti wood has a hard texture and a clear and crisp tone, and is generally used as a substitute for mahogany. Some of the entry-level guitars of the famous Japanese brand YAMAHA use this material as the back and side panels.
